Xu52C With Gti Camshaft, Will It Work The Same As Xu5J?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm changing my mi16 back to a 1.6 engine, I was suggested a XU52C engine with all the accessories of the 205 gti 1.6 (inlet mani, loom, ecu etc).

I've read here:

http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=61804

The reaction of "Beastie" which said the following:

"Try having a look at the engine identification plate if it's still there - on the front of the engine at the timing belt end (facing the front of the car)

If the engine type is XU51C then it is indeed the engine from a 1.6 Auto and the points already mentioned apply. It's also common to find XU52C engines fitted which were never originally available in the 205 These engines look externally just like the XU5J and XUJA engines when they are fitted with the injection system of the 205 but they don't have the oil temperature sensor. The XU52C engine has the same cylinder head and valves as the XU5JA but it has a very much milder camshaft with less lift. If you have either of these engines fitted with the L Jetronic fuel injection from the 205 then the injection won't be callibrated correctly for the engine and you'll be unlikely to get CO readings below about 4% at MOT time ohmy.gif "

I told the man who sourced the engine this issue and he said that he will install an original GTI camshaft, would that work as good as original?

Or should I try and track down another engine?

(The reason that i'm not installing an original XU5J is that there are non to find around here, hence the "workaround", but I might continue searching for an original one if this is a bad idea).

Any thoughts will be appriciated.

Jonathan
