The Unorthodox Way To Go Rwd On A 205

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have been a member on this forum for quite some time now, and learned most of what i know about the 205 gti, pugs and car mechanics in general here. I own my 205gti for around 13 years already, and for the last few years have been toying with the idea of making it rwd/awd with more power going to the rear wheels. This idea always seemed like "a bit" too much work, and with no way to go backwards in case it handles like crap. But then, a couple of years ago, in another one of these 205/309 dangel discussions, someone mentioned that it might be possible to modify the rear trailing arms to be fitted with front type bearings, that can have a drive shaft going through them, which seemed like a good idea.. Then i believe it was Hilgie who said that it shouldn be much of an issue fitting a front 106 hub to the 205 trailing arm but no one ever actually continued in that route. Well at least not on the pages of this forum from what ive searched.. Anyways, that was the piont i gained interest in this project again, and found AlexNs 405 project thread, where he actually gets rid of the 405 4x4 gearbox in favor of a mistu evo box. This whole gearbox adapter thing opens a new world of possible boxes to use without rotating the mi16 engine i have at the moment 90 degrees or replacing it with a something longitudinal.. My idea is (if it will be possible to modify the rear arms) is to run some type of jap 4x4 gearbox with driveshats only to the rear, and canceling the front by locking the diff. I know that this is the least reasonable way to do it due to power loss, more parts to break down and other issues... But it is the only way i can think of that is "easily" reversible, and doesnt require any body mods.. ideas? Opinions?(i mena besides "dont do it, its a dumb idea") ????

Thanks in advance and sorry for any english mistakes, im not a native speaker..

Can you weld, fabricate and use a lathe and milling machine?

Can you measure accurately?

Do you have a basic understanding of car geometry?

i have access to all the needed equipment, and have helping hands with tools i dont know how to use yet.

Although i never made a project thread on my car, it was fully stripped and rebuilt by me, and has some less

Common mods, like wrx 4pot brakes on gti6 discs, or direct to head gsxr throttle bodies, with all the adapters designed

By me. My family consists mostly of engeneers, so planning and calculating isnt a problem as i always have help if needed.

After years of digging, reading and building i should have at least the basics of car geometry

Get cracking then, there's no part of a car that you can chop off that can't be put back together, get stuck in and post progress pictures on here ;)

I was just wondering if someone has actually modified the rear arms to receive 106 front hubs before i get into it myself
