Gti6 Engine Holding Back Below 1K

Recommended Posts

NFS

So i have a 205 with a gti6 engine installed. it drive fine and makes great power, however when im pulling off etc and the revs are below 1k it holds back and then release above 1K rpm.

here is a short vid which you might be able to see it in. its not a major issue but it affects stop start comfortablity. Does anyone know what this might be?

Photobucket is playing silly games for me, but it sounds like the classic symptoms of a missing or faulty VSS (vehicle speed sensor).

Look at the back of the gearbox/diff housing where the speedo cable goes into the speedo drive. It should be a hybrid type speedo drive with a 3-pin wiring plug and the usual mechanical speedo cable attachment.

If there's no 3-pin wiring plug on the speedo drive and there's a loose 3-pin white plug on the loom, you've found your problem. Fit the correct speedo drive, plug in the cable and the issue should vanish.

If it has the correct speedo drive fitted and the cable is plugged in, it's probably broken - replace the speedo drive with a new (or at least known good) one.

Thanks Anthony, I have just popped out side and i can see that i only have a single manual speedo drive so i dont have a dual type one on the box. Its a 1.6 box i think so would i be able to put an S16 speedo drive onto the 1.6 box and would i need to take the shafts out? thanks alot!

No need to remove the driveshafts, but you'll need to either drain the gearbox oil or jack the drivers side of the car right up so oil doesn't go everywhere when you remove the speedo drive.

S16 type hybrid speedo drive will fit the 1.6 gearbox just fine, just swap the drive cog over that's on there now. They're actually used on various mid-90's TU/XU powered PSA models, not just S16's.

Poor show not fitting the correct part when it was supposedly professionally converted though...

Do a search on eBay for "Peugeot 616024" - loads on there, with varying degrees of mickey-mouse quality.
