Injector Does Not Give Fuel

Recommended Posts

None of the injectors give fuel. There is fuel at the rail. Are the injectors constipated or is the ecu not giving a signal? Is it measurable when the ecu sends a signal? The car did not run for two years.

Yes, tested with a screwdriver in the ignition cable on the inlet manifold. It gave spark.

Check connectors that go to injectors when cranking-if no variance then it's electrical-if there is a signal then it must be fuel related

At least you'd know to check pump etc

Pump gives fuel, there is fuel at the injectors rail. How to measure the pulse at the injectors?

At least one pin of each connector should have +12v when ignition is on. At least you can measure that with a cheapo multimeter. Other lead of meter can be earthed on body, ground etc.

You can buy a little LED tool that flashes to check electrical pulses, a multimeter might no react quick enough.

Thanks all for the info! I will check it. If the injectors are gone, could I use the 1.6 GTI injectors for the 1.9 DFZ XUJA1 engine?

they will work but are quite a bit smaller so will provide less fuel.

9J1 use a bosch yellow 0 280 150 734, also found in volvos, they're a 200cc/min flow rate @3 bar.

9ja are closer and use 0 280 150 762, 214cc/min, found in 1.9 mi16's as well. (also found in some volvo applications)

XU5JA use 0280150211, 147cc/min.

however its more likely to be damaged wiring.

Injectors can stick if left for a while. Give them a tap then pulse them with direct 12v on/off/on/off etc often will get them going. You can hear a click when they are working.

So I have removed the injectors and checked them directly with 12v. One is working fine after giving it a couple of taps. The click is very clear when giving it 12v. The other three aren't working well. I can hear a very soft click when giving it 12v but it seems that the needle is stuck. Is this repairable or should I find some other injectors?

Having them professionally cleaned / refurbished should fix them.

I put the 3 not working injectors in a Bath of brake cleaner last nicht. I tried again this evening in combination with a little tapping and yes! They came all loose! Should i use also another cleaner to clean the internal injector as the needle now is moving?
