1.9 Main Bearing Problems..

After finding I have low compression on cylinder 4 I have opted for a full engine rebuild, only 1 part left to remove and that's the crank, iv rebuilt engines before and the internals tend to strip ok, you know because they've spent their entire life soaked in oil..

 

But, the centre main cap with studs, is stuck fast, and I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? And how they got over it? Before I get well and truly pissed off and go all agricultural with it...

 

Any help appreciated!

Warm up each side of block with an oxy torch, just enough until you can get some movement.

remove the two bolts in the side of the cap.

Cheers for the help, il whip the side bolts out when I get home from work! Didn't realise it was cross bolted! Hope I haven't damaged anything now..

Haha, lucky you didn't apply too much heat. At least when the aluminium fell away you would have found the M8 bolts in the sides.
