Xu10J2Te Throttle Limitations

Recommended Posts

tommy gun

Hi all currently thinking about upping the power on my 205 xu10 build. Current running 220bhp on standalone management with a few other mods.

I will be going for a new exhaust manifold to improve flow but was wondering if the standard throttle and maybe the inlet will hold me back.

Would like to aim for 300 bhp figures.

It is small and restrictive, but not something you can't overcome with extra boost. (Note the 405 T16 manifold/throttle body is only slighty larger in diameter)

Question if you want to.

I would put on the 1.9 GTI inlet with slightly larger throttle body (GTI6 body or so).

At least that's my plan, not only for power but also for the OEM look of it.

The inlet isn't ideal but also not as awful as some make out. Like wicked I'm fitting the stock 1.9 inlet as its a little better designed but more for looks and plumbing simplicity as the proximity of the 2te inlet to the rad is a bit of a pain.

One thing that is crap in that engine is the cam, lazy is not the word for it. There are a few cams that would be a decent upgrade just be careful of too much overlap as you'll just end up blowing the boost straight out the exhaust.

Changing the exhaust manifold is very much needed, the stock one is awful and barely fit for purpose on a stock engine. Make sure your downpipe/elbow ends up a sufficient size also.

What are you thinking turbo wise for your goal? 300 is going to be my goal and I'm currently leaning towards a HE2xx type turbo, maybe a HE200WG as its bang on at around 280 on a 2te and still comfortable at 300 and getting to the top of the compressor map at 320.

I've current got the dkz cam thinking of getting the turbo cam that cat cams make.

Turbo wise I was going for tubular manifold and cossie 4x4 t3.

those old T3's are a little laggy but if your tuner is decent they should be able to help a bit with spool

As you are going to the effort of changing the manifold, downpipe, plumbing, why on earth are you considering a 80's era T3. There are hundreds of more modern turbos that will spoil faster and flow better. Look at the Garrett roller bearing GT series.

My exhaust manifold has a t3 flange and just thought they could be had for cheap. If you can recommended a better turbo that will fit I'm all ears.

GT3071R

If your restricted on budget, you might look into TD05's from volvo's. They often have T3 flanges.

The CatCams turbo cam is great for power; makes a huge diff, but not easy to map.

my mate runs one with 1.9 inlet, GT28R on tubular manifold; 300+ bhp. Make sure you have a proper clutch to handle that.

I'm not really on a restricted budget, just acquiring all the parts as and when.

Is a gt3071r a bit on the big side for 300

Would be perfect, but has T25 flange and not T3

Yeah I've seen that but thought about getting an adapter or even welding a t25 flange on.

Anyone had any experience of the ihi vf ball bearing turbos that are found on Subaru's.
