Updated Release Bearing

Recommended Posts

After finding the loss of clutch was due to my release bearing bending - the plastic parts that connect to the fork were bent.

I've noticed a couple of manufactures offer a up rated (not updated) release bearing. What is actually updated about them or was I just unlucky and should get another Valeo item?

What clutch are you using? Standard Mi16 215mm unit or something with an updated pressure plate?

I would just use another standard bearing tbh, the method of fixing to the fork on most so called uprated bearings I have seen were identical, I think you've just been unlucky when fitting it.

with a standard pressure plate you wont need an uprated bearing.

I think a mismatch of clutch fork and bearings can knock out the release bearing as the pressure is applied off centre , there was a post on here about it a while back .Basically you should have yellow bushes top and bottom on a release fork with a J stamped on the top face , white bushes top and bottom on the much later shaft/arm with no J and the very different arm shape .And no mixing bush colours like you see on some Ebay ads .

Thread in question is here which shows the measurements of the two different clutch forks and which colour bearings are needed for each type.

Other thing is to make sure that the clutch release bearing is properly clipped in place when fitting the 'box - it's easy to knock it partly off if you knock the clutch arm when wiggling the 'box into place. I would imagine that if you ended up with the bearing in such a position where the fork pushed it unevenly then you'd wreak it in no time and probably have a clutch that felt terrible.
