Gearbox Descisions

Following on from my previous thread I managed to get my box all fitted with a correct clutch fork but sadly 3 laps in the pedal dropped to the floor and stayed there so it's comming out again. Also upon testing it was found to have a crunch in 3rd so that also needs addressing. I've been searching all morning but seem to come across a lot of varying info

Now I'm at a crossroads really on what to do

The car has a circa 200hp gti6 engine fitted and is track use only

I have at my disposal a

1.9 gearbox with 4.4 fd but with a dodgy 3rd (I'm told should be good for around 130 which is fine)

Vts box - ok but removed for the above

My other thought is a 1.6 box ??

What would you chose as the ideal box from the above?

I'd stick a fresher synchro in the hybrid box you have.

cable probably snapped because you had it too tight.

Cable hasn't snapped there's nothing wrong with the cable and definitely wasn't to tight.

I have a lot of movement on the fork so the pedal cannot return also I can move the lever up and down so thinking possibly snapped the locating tabs off the release bearing. I'll hopefully pull it out at the weekend if time permits as interested to see exactly what's failed and more importantly why.

Would the xsara box be compatible to rob the syncro from?

If it's a track only car I'd get the 1.9 w/ 4.4 FD 'box sorted and use that. 130mph will be about 7500rpm give or take, which is enough for most UK tracks (too short for the 'Ring though if that's a consideration)

you'd need to take the box apart to check the synchro, there's a few small differences, most likely that the 1.6 box would be more likely a candidate for a suitable synchro, Miles would remember exactly.

Yeah no plans for anywhere like the ring so sure 130 is more than adequate for most places.

Sounds like a plan to repair the 1.9 box and start again on that route

Yep, 1.9 or 1.6 box with a 4.4, with the bodies on there top speed I doubt will be a issue unless you've got a 7k limit, 3 &4 gear you can repair on the car without taking the box out but as it's out silly not to sort it all
