Ok, spent a couple of hours today stripping the manifold off the car. As suspected it has a crack in it. Not sure if they can be welded, i seem to think they are cast so probably not. Dunno.

Anyway I'm fitting a 4 branch stainless instead so it doesnt matter.

regarding the manifold studs, most have stayed in the head but a couple have come out with the nuts, what's everyones thoughts - should I replace them all ( i can see removing the ones still in the head being a pain in the ass tbh or just remove the stuck nuts , refit the studs and reassemble with fresh nuts?

Cheers!

yeah if they'll come out without breaking it would be best to remove them all

replace all the studs, cover the new ones with anti-sieze, and get a set of copper nuts

but it depends how difficult they are to remove

the last thing you want is a broken stud

serie04 has the studs and copper nuts but you can probably get them way cheaper at autodoc (they wont sell to us over here)

Thoughts on aftermarket exhausts please.

I've got a stainless 4 branch ready to fit, on inspection the rest of the exhaust is in good condition.

My local custom exhaust place quoted me £750 to replace the mid and rear portions which seems mental to me ,or just for a straight pipe and rear box 550!

Chaps,

A problem I did not think about, how to fit this part!

It's fouling on everything and no way I can wiggle it in.

My I initial thought is remove the gear linkages and heat shield and try again, if  still no luck then remove the top engine mount and pull the engine forward.

Before I head down this path, anybody who's fitted one of these can you comment ?

Paul you can get a milltek stainless exhaust for around 700 quid .

I'd rather chew my feet off than spend 700 quid tbh

easy for me to say, but go back return it get a refund - get another OE exhaust manifold

trying to jam in that staino one will be terrible, and stainless cracks and sounds s*it anyway

your custom exhaust quote sounds barely believable

my local did mine for $145 (£75!)  versus £750

there were two sections they bent, welded and fitted. great job

that was before inflation went mental but still 10X the price !!

keep on

Support the engine and remove the top arm, swinging the bottom around wont achieve much.

Personally I would just drop the subframe to fit that. Doesn't take all that much doing to drop it, bottom arms, track rod ends, drop links, gear linkage, steering column lower coupling, the clip on the clutch cable.

In the end I took the heat shields off, top engine mount and just made enough room.

Now to decide what to buy for the rest of the system.

Whilst Im busy in the engine bay I've carried out a good clean and general inspection of everything.

Once again I've found the Baker BM induction hose failing. Rubber cracking around the breather connections.

I'm pretty annoyed with this, but also fed up with the faff of having an AFM, induction hoses and standard air filter fitted. I've decided to remove it all and fit a Green cotton air filter direct to the throttle body via a short adaptor hose.

The rest of the exhaust is being collected from Jackherer, I've gone for stainless , once its all back together I will take the car for a check/fine tune at Emerald.

Its actually quite nice to be doing a bit for work on it, will be nice to have it ready in a few weeks now the weather is improving.

No, standard road cars okay, you just need to join a club.
