What's This In My Rear Quarter?

Recommended Posts

Clarky3rdNut

Hi all. Wondering if someone can shed some light.

Removing the rear quarter panel tonight has revealed some wiring and boxes that I do not believe to be standard.

Anybody have any ideas what these could be? My first guess would be some sort of tracking device. But on a 205? Really?

It's pretty well wired into the rear loom so any advice on removal would be useful.

Oh and before anybody says it ..Rust!

If it's linked to the wiring that has been spliced into the boot light I'd say alarm related as this is generally used to trigger the alarm if the boot is opened.

I don't think it's alarm related. That blue wire from the boot light was wired to a black box at the front under the centre console that I have now thankfully de-wired from everywhere else too.

It was a Peugeot branded key fob that activated the immobiliser and horn alarm. I don't think these two boxes are related to that system.

More clues coming soon..

Ok so a lovely, heavy, leaky recharchable battery and a metal Motorola branded box.

Seems to just be wired into 12V + and - with a blue signal wire from somewhere.

Self tapping screws straight into the wheel arch was clearly the best way of installing such a device!!

As its Motorola branded I'd guess phone related, but as it's also got a battery could it be an early tracking device.

If you download a barcode scanner app and scan it it may reveal more.

I thought tracker as soon as I saw that wire taped up the trim, which looks like an antennae. I just googled "old motorola car tracker" and google images immediately brought up very similar looking boxes.

Yes. Confirmed it's a tracker.

Intersting. I wonder how it worked? The good news I guess is that it will be easy to cut out.

I was worried that I'd found another immobiliser box of sorts that if I didn't remove properly, would give me gremlins forever.

Could very well have also been the sole source of my horrendous battery drain!
