2.0 Mi16 Head On A Different Aluminium Block?

Recommended Posts

layton1985

Thanks, I read that thread, it goes a bit off topic with abit of an argument to spice it up abit, I think the guy was from Slovenia who put up a bit of a list of bores strikes and cranks.

Has anyone used the xud11 crank will it finish it's stroke above the deck? No danger of it clashing with the head?

only if you get the rod length wrong.

Why did he get banned? He seems to know his stuff, I've read a blog of his on the 205 gti engine, was a good read, is he having a go at LAD performance in that write up does anybody know? I had a 205 once that had been LAD converted

Starting to get really complicated, so far I have learned that for a 2.1 s16 block I need

Xud turbo crank 92mm stroke

S16 wossner forged pistons 87mm

S16 wossner forged connecting rods ? (Standard s16 length )

Bearings will be advised by crank specialist

no that wont work, they would come over deck, you need a shorter piston.

i wouldn't use wossner anyway, they dont suit the xud11 crank.

to go 2088 you only need 88mm crank, 92mm will get you to 2187cc

Constant sarcastic answers and really bad attitude towards anyone with an idea or opinion.

He always made out he knew everything and YOU were a retard for not knowing but never actually gave away the answers...

You could use GTI-6 rods and look for 31mm high pistons.

Loads of Jap stuff in that ballpark.

IIRC Nissan Skyline pistons will work as the dish and the pin diameters are correct.

That said it seems like you should start with an EW12 as you were complaining about weight?

its a fairly small pin and not bushed in a gti6.

you can use a lightly modified vauxhall piston.

Good information Welshpug, thanks :)

Gonna have to ditch this I think so far I thought I found the correct bore and stroke crank assuming I'd use the s16 rods (all forged) but then that would pass the deck so would need shorter rod which contradicts getting a crank with a longer stroke then there's talk of a piston with a shorter body, I need a lie down, is there not a dummies guide anywhere? Has anyone got a tried and tested 2.1 setup with good torque figure for the s16 block?

I thought the pistons had to be peugeot only? Have asked the question but nobody was sure?

they can be anything suitable, a lot of the stuff readily available made for peugeot engines are of questionable quality and random specification you are usually better going fully custom or adapting good quality parts from other engines.

s16 pistons are fairly tall so are a bit heavy, the rods are shorter than gti6 (same block, so shorter lightwr piston)

my 2.2 uses a modified vauxhall piston a 92mm crank and a rod the same length as a gti6, as the piston's pin height is lower again.

there isn't much of a guide as every build has been different and some peoples approach can be quite different to others.

I do recall my engines previous incarnation as an 88x87 gti6 with the same piston made about 220 bhp 190 lbft with newman ph2's and jenveys.

my own 2.0 gti6 with ph2's on jen5s/satchell inlet and standard zx exhaust made 200 bhp.

How did you go about choosing a vauxhall piston? Are you a mechanic by trade? Also how did you manage to gwt someone to modify it? In my experience I can't get anyone to deviate from what they are doing day to day as they must make too much money doing that and won't entertain the idea of doing anything different never mind custom.

With my experience I just want to be able to purchase the right pistons 87mm bore correct length?

Correct rods and crank to achieve my goal n enjoy putting it all together myself as my hobby.

Just don't know how I could go about gaining all this knowledge without working in a garage.

Thanks for all the advice, I am learning, just takes time.

There's lots of advice being offered here which is complicating the situation. My initial suggestion was to use the parts (except pistons) you already have to make 2088cc. If you want more cc, you'll be spending a lot more. For example, there's nothing wrong with an Mi16 crank for speeds to 8000. Which ever way you do it, you have to finish with a flat top piston, flush with the deck, achieving a total height of 235.1mm

ie

half stroke + rod length + piston compression height

Mi16 crank + XU10J4 rod + XU10J4 piston

88/2 + 152 + 39.1 = 235.1

I use XU10J4 size rods and pistons in my race engines and they go ok.

For pistons, there are plenty of options. Just don't use Wossner. eg JE, Iapel, Wiseco, Arias

Keep in mind that XU10J4 has a gudgeon pin size of 23mm. Wossner continually get it wrong.
