Fuel Tank Wiring

Recommended Posts

Mac Crash

Broke the one of the spigots from the fuel pump housing - braided hoses inside car with jubilee clips so my excuse is that the clip has been done up to tight by former owner... I will use correct clips but in meantime I have bought another fuel pump from Anthony but I'm just using the housing from his... anyway have cleaned the tank out and put it back on but noticed that the wiring from the housings are different colours... logic has told me to connect the banded/striped wire and the solid coloured wire to their respective connectors.... these are the wires from the pump to the connectors inside the pump housing... I guess if they are not the right way round that the pump won't work and there will be no explosion risk? electrical connectors inside a fuel tank, is there any risk with that?

You mean getting the polarity wrong?

It would probably suck rather than blow.

I've never done it but if you want to make sure you get it right, you could sit it in a clean bin with some fuel with a bit of temporary hose into a bottle, and apply a car battery via some temporary wires to get the polarity.

Then, put a multi-meter on the car wiring and identify the feed and confirm the earth to bodywork.

Are the wires not colour coded with one on the pump being green, and one from the car being green with yellow bits?

Yip, polarity is what i meant...

The wires are coded but the pump is from my car and the pump housing from Anthony... the wires are different colours but may have faded from contact with fuel over some time... I know how to make sure it is right though now, thanks...
