4 Pot Help

Fitting my 4 pots today. (2nd hand set up but with new rotors and pads).

 

All fitted no problem but what I'm finding is when I bolt the wheel up the wheel locks up well will not turn without excessive force. I can't see anything touching and everything spins fine with the wheel loose.

 

I removed the pads and booted the wheel on and it turn freely.

 

Now Is it normal for the pads to be "tight" to start with? or any other ideas?

pretty sure yes as cannot see any marking on the bell etc as if it's catching there. I will check though as must admit I just bolted it all up as is a specific kit that came off another 205

 

Almost seems as if when the wheel is tightened its pushing the rotor against the rear pad?

Could be if the caliper isn't centred properly. use the wheel bolts to nip the bell up without the wheel and see what happens.

Yes it's not I've just checked and yes soon as I lock the rotor in place by tightening the wheels it locks up. I can wiggle the front pad but the rear goes solid.

 

How do I move forward do I need a shim behind the bell?

measure the space either side of the disc in the caliper, add half the difference under the lugs if its too tight on the inside pad.

It can be measured, the easiest way would be to remove the pads and use gauge blocks or similar in between the piston and the rotor. Personally i'd just get a handful of decent quality thin washers and try them until it's something like.

Surprising how many aftermarket brake kits don't sit the caliper central, you don't notice until you buy some pads with a bit of extra material on.

Yeah I think cause it's new pads and rotors it's as tight as will ever be.

 

I'll have a play with some washers tomorrow

Are the pistons fully back in the caliper?

Are they moving?

Aer they sliding?

Yes all working as should, the callipers were refurbed 6 months ago and had new rotors/pads and never used since

 

Found out from the previous owner he did have to run some very thin washers to centralise the calliper,

 

Rather than grind down some washers like they did I've ordered some 0.1mm washer/shims to centralise it which should solve all the issues
