2L Crank In 1.9 Block

Recommended Posts

Andy

Evening,

Previous topic made it clear that an xu10j4 head will fit on the xu9j block. My question is whether the xu10j4 crank will fit in the xu9j block and if so, what rods and piston would be needed. I know, on the face of it, a bad plan if only because of capacity loss but I know a man with a brand new mi16 1.9 block and specially made 86mm liners.

Never. The thrust bearing faces are too narrow. You could pay a machine shop to grind it to XU9J4 specs however.

Height wise, if you had standard XU10J4 pistons, with a 39.1mm deck height:

44 + 143 + 37.5 = 43 + Rod length + 39.1

Rod length = 142.4mm

Which is close enough to standard XU9J4 length. All you'd have to do is get the rods rebushed to 23mm.

The missing 0.6mm could be accounted for with a thinner head gasket or decking.

Thank you. Probably easier to try to track down a 1.9mi16 crank then and avoid the difficulties you mention. Currently I have no 16v parts but potentially access to some, though not all.

Right. Moved on. Now the proud owner of a 1.9 mi16 engine. Am I correct in assumimg that the good gti6 exhaust manifold cannot be encouraged to fit the head because the stud pattern is different (9 vs10)? If I am I had better head to the wanted section and ask after an mi16 1.9 exhaust manifold that either I can adapt to fit in my 205 or has already been re-angled.

I have an XU9J4 wedge plate in the For Sale section. Make me an offer. It's been there for a while.

The GTi6 won't fit because the port width & height is different. I have made XU9J4 to GTi6 wedge plates but it's a lot of work.
