allye 530 3 Cars Posted August 27, 2016 I remember going to watch a few events as a kid, including some big events like lands end trials and can remember all sorts of cars being thrashed around with a bouncing passenger! I can vaguely remember a picture of a 205 doing some trials. Just wondered if anyone had done it? A 1.8d on stilts and some proper tyres should go quite well for very cheap and serious fun! barneys66 124 1 Cars Posted August 28, 2016 Chap in a local club here does. Given the punishment some of them get I'd be reluctant to use any 205, especially when Saxos etc are so cheap.
welshpug 1,666 Posted August 28, 2016 saxos dont take the punishment lol
allye 530 3 Cars Posted August 28, 2016 A bloody gti as well!!? I said diesel to get some weight over the nose, sounds as though that's not what you want?
barneys66 124 1 Cars Posted August 28, 2016 A bloody gti as well!!? I said diesel to get some weight over the nose, sounds as though that's not what you want? No you're absolutely right - quite a few of the small cars here add ballast over the nose.
allye 530 3 Cars Posted August 28, 2016 Some 306 springs, raise the rear, knobbly tyres, bring the fuel and brake lines in the car, sump guard, go trailing!
barneys66 124 1 Cars Posted August 28, 2016 Do it !!
calvinhorse 870 Posted August 28, 2016 There was one at pugfest a few years back, he had a 2" lif kit on the back made from box section! 405 struts are the longest that will fit directly
allye 530 3 Cars Posted August 28, 2016 I remember that one, white on carbs? Think it would be a really cheap and fun way into some sort of Motorsport if you can call it that.
welshpug 1,666 Posted August 28, 2016 8v gti lump on bodies i think, sandy has mapped one iirc.
calvinhorse 870 Posted August 28, 2016 Yeah I think it was white, possibly 5 door, had a spare wheel behind the passenger and drivers seat, looked a lot of fun! I had a 5 door 1.1 on 13" wheels the tyres were something stupid like 175/70/13s, it went everywhere in the snow
888rmb 6 Posted September 2, 2016 I've used a 205 Diesel on Production car trials, it wasn't very good, the engine is too slow revving. Sometimes you need to boot it and the diesel doesn't pick up quick enough. I've used a 205 1.6 gti, that was a bit better. However Nova 1200cc was the best I've used. Sandy 191 Posted September 23, 2016 8v gti lump on bodies i think, sandy has mapped one iirc. Several, one of them, Nick Cleal's successful green one is for sale at the moment, which would save a heap on building one and the shell is already ruined, so no guilt! allye 530 3 Cars Posted September 24, 2016 (edited) Didn't know you were allowed to change the engine. Edited September 24, 2016 by allye
barneys66 124 1 Cars Posted September 24, 2016 Didn't know you were allowed to change the engine. Think an Mi16 would be covered by this; 10.6.1. There are no restrictions on engine tuning, providing the cylinder block is of the same manufacture and configuration as the original.
calvinhorse 870 Posted September 24, 2016 I bet that's so much fun I'm guessing it's an mi16 block with a j4R head of some description?
welshpug 1,666 Posted September 24, 2016 thats a 6 head.
Sandy 191 Posted September 24, 2016 It was Iron block all XU10 16v when I mapped it, Nick's not been well and his son probably placed the ad and may not be sure of the exact details.
rattly_black 3 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) This is the white 205 we saw on the 2013 Exeter trial (have to scroll down news in brief page) http://timotorsport.typepad.com/ti_motorsport/news-in-brief.html Says its driven by Jamie Shallcross Just remember it made a lovely noise and ripped up lots of the stages, certainly did better than we did. Can definitely recommend competing Allye it was great fun but absolutely knackering. Edited September 29, 2016 by rattly_black
Sandy 191 Posted September 30, 2016 Iron block 2.0 8v on bodies, also mapped by me. James used to be on here quite a bit, but more a reader than writer.
