Gti6 Not Starting

Recommended Posts

Malc

Went to take the motor out tonight and it failed to start, (was running perfectly on Saturday and nothing done since) Checked plugs and have decent spark, Plugs a bit black but not wet, bit of a concern after winding over a few times, checked fuel pumps (2 pumps due to swirl pot) and fuel going to the fuel rail. Starter winding well also. Could this be down to fuel injectors not firing in fuel? Unsure how to check this. Any other suggestions?

Have you a spare crank position sender as this tells the ecu the engine is being cranked over.

I'm sure I have, as have a few parts of gear boxes lying around, will dig one out and try tonight. I'm convinced the injectors are not fuelling the engine, hence as you say above regards ECU not getting a signal.

If you've got a consistent spark then the crank sensor is working - the ECU needs the input from that to be able to fire the coils at the correct time.

Check whether you've got +12v on one pin on the injectors (ECU earths the other pin to open the injector) and if not, check/replace the injection relay as I've seen those fail in odds ways before, powering some circuits and not others.

Cheers Anthony, gave the crank sensor a clean as it was caked in oil, tried again and just winding, decided to grab the old faithful easy start from the cupboard (just to determine it was a fuel issue) it started fine, and expecting it to die after a couple of seconds the bug*er kept running, took it out for a blast and to bed in the new brakes, never missed a beat. Got home left it for 20 mins and went back to find it started first time again. Blooming old pug, always finding a way to taunt me. Away brakes bed in and awesome, track night booked for Monday. Just this high crankcase pressure to sort out next.
