Bootlid Spring Fasteners

Has anyone fitted the spring fasteners to replace the regular catch for the boot?

Any tips for measuring and fitting before I drill into bodywork?!

if you are replacing the catch rather than using it as "backup" i would personally use pins instead of springs- have known springs to stretch/come loose [on a lancia stratos replica i used to service think 18 inches before the rear clamshell ripped them off !!]

springs are ok on escort boots when pulling down but on a 205 tailgate are holding it forward + being caught by the airflow/pulling back constantly

Ah I see where you're coming from, and have a friend with a Mk2 Escort with the same springs which as you say are out of any wind load so to speak!

My catch is quite worn and a bit rattly so was going to replace... but at least it's securing the boot down atm... so may try and get hold of a new catch 'loop' instead.

Thanks!
