Vss Wiring Problem

Recommended Posts

I have been running my gti6 205 for about 8 months and am well pleased with the performance apart from a slight flat spot at low revs.A bit of googling seemed to suggest that it could be down to the VSS.I have wired up a diagnostic port and looking at the data, the vehicle speed is zero when driving.I have pulled the loom out and stripped off some of the insulation. The VSS plug is numbered 1 to 3.Wire 1 is connected to the EM relay 12v feed, wire 2 is connected to earth and wire 3 is connected to terminal 28 of the ECU plug.If i check continuity from terminal 3 of the VSS plug to the ECU plug,It beeps on terminal 28, but also on terminals 36 and 54.According to autodata,36 and 54 are earth connections for the ECU,so how and why would they appear to be connected to 28, the VSS signal wire.It just doesnt make any sense to me and was wondering if anyone could explain it.Thanks.Rob

Did you have the VSS disconnected while you checked from pin 3 to pin 28 on ECU? If you did then it looks like that signal wire is grounded in the loom somewhere. That speed signal wire would have also gone to the large round multipin connector in a 306 for the speedo.

Yes i had the VSS disconnected and i stripped off all the tape and traced wire up to the ECU plug. There is no chance of a short on this section of wire.Do you know where the speedo signal wire is connected?Rob
