Car Has Been Stood In The Garage For 4 Years

Hi, sorry post title should say

Car Has Been Stood In The Garage For 4 Years, Will It Need New Gearbox OIL

Didn't realise i had run out of letters :-(

My 1.9 GTi has been in dry storage for the last 4 years, trying to get it back on the road with the minimum fuss and cash.

Its done 104,000 miles and to the best of my knowlegde its on the original gearbox oil. It doesn't leak and all worked fine before it took it of the road.

Will i need to change it if its not moved for 4 years? Should i have done it already? Im not sure how long the stuff is meant to last?

Cheers

Gearbox oil will most probably be fine. Not sure about the moisture in your garage, but mine recommendations would be:

-check all brake and fuel lines for corrosion

-check engine oil (not only the level on the dipstick, but the oil itself (consistency)

-basically all rubber is prone to cracks (hoses, CV boots, rack boots, etc.)

Take it for an MOT let them decide what's perished and makes it unroadworthy if at all.

Whether it needs it is one thing. But don't you think that for the cost and minimal effort of draining and refilling that the car deserves it after being stood for 4 years? Go on, treat it.
