Walbro Gst400K Fuel Pump

Recommended Posts

James Cornell

I have a suspected "lazy" fuel pump so I have ordered a new Walbro GST400K pump. I have heard many conflicting stories about fitting these pumps and I just wanted to get some advise before I start.

I have a 1989 phase 1.5 205 GTI 1.9, I'm not afraid of a challenge, however I know when I'm beaten so if it's a non starter I would rather know and I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a Bosch pump (direct replacement)

my personal experience is of a walbro pump lasting less than three months, I bodged an used VDO unit in till I managed to find a genuine bosch replacement.

on my zx this is.

sent the pump back but haven't heard anything in about a year.

Well I bought the pump from spoox and it is still in the box so if it is going to be a total bugger to fit I will buy a Bosch one, they are just really expensive compared to the Walbro

I was afraid you would say that ????

Well it won't hurt to take the file pump out of the car and have a look, I suppose I can draw my own conclusions once the are side by side

Also I will post some pics for anyone else considering this

Do a pressure test on the pump

Mine was giving low pressure then went for a bosch replacement (fit and forget) from Mr auto
