When Bleeding Coolant Can I Avoid Using The Thermostat Bleed Screw?

Recommended Posts

Going to do a coolant change but my thermostat bleed screw doesnt look too clever. Heard lots if horror stories of them snapping!

Would rather avoid using it.question is, will it bleed ok just by using the bleed screw on the pipe by the bulkhead and running car with the cap off or am i still going to end up with air in the system

I always bleed by just having the cap off, running till the thermostat opens and the fans kick in. I don't use my thermostat screw and I don't have one on the bbm silicone matrix hose. I've not had problems.

So I guess my answer is that it's ok...

As above, these engines bleed themselves with the cap off.

Yeah, mines bust too!!! And I had to change heater hose once after being a twat and cross threading the bleed screw

Leave cap off as mentioned and check it a couple of days later-take a bottle in boot if your worried
