Opel Omega Gearbox Adapting To Mi16 Engine To Go Rwd

Founding a strong box to bolt to the xu9j4 seams to be impossible, so i decided to make one fit, first was to find gearbox with good ratio, my diff is 3.307 so i know i need good pick up of the line and good top speed, looked at BMW getrag boxes, they have very big clutches and are expensive, and then found this opel omega 2,5td gearbox.

Internet says is a copy from the getrag 240 with stronger internals, at first looked easy to modified, after testing the diesel engines seams to use much thicker flywheel so i had to cut the bellhousing so the throwout bearing cloud reach, that made a new problem as the clutch cover center hole was too small it had to be enlarge it, and the input shaft had to be modified, ones all that was done i couple the engine and box together, i was left with only two lower bolt holes which did not lined up, so i decided to cut even more of the of the bellhousing, and i cut a flange for the xu engines from a blown be3 gearbox, line everything up and had a friend weld it, the flange lets me use the original starter, crank position sensor, and 3 bolt holes, for the last bolt hole we welded on a new piece from scratch, drilled it and tap it for m10.This is how i made my gearbox fit the xu9j4 engine.

Nicely done!

 

It looks good in the engine bay at the right angle, very BMW-esque.

 

Have you given much thought to how you're going to do the engine mounts and also the sump situation? These engines are renowned for their (lack of) oil control!
