Keep, Strip Or Sell?

Hey Guys

I bought my 205 in Aug last year. Over the last few months I've really enjoyed the car to the point that I'm selling my M3. Its got quite a good spec - GTI6 engine and brakes conversion, air con, sunroof, PAS, elec windows etc. I dont want to track it as I already have a stripped out MX5 for that.

But I've removed a whole load of weight from the car (around 50kg) and it really feels all the better for it. I'm now stuck with what to do. At the moment the interior etc is all in tact and I feel it would be stupid to start stripping it out given its a good spec and there's usually track ready stripped out ones for sale.

I'm using the car daily for a short commute so stripping it out wouldn't make it unusable and enjoy the feel of it with less weight.

So I can either strip the 205 I have or sell it and get a stripped out 205 and may be put some stuff back in but i'm thinking that may be more difficult in terms of just getting the bits. Or I guess I could get something completely different but cant think of anything as light, nimble and fun for the money.

If I keep the car I'd want / need to spend a bit to get a restore and respray on the shell and refresh the suspension and steering. Track ready cars ususally have the suspension sorted but also typically need shell work.

What to do

Better the devil you know; keep yours, do the repairs, strip out what's practical for a road car (storing what you do take out) and enjoy.

It'll never be enough so decide where to stop, retaining the option to go back to stock should you decide.

Keep it!! Had mine 21 years (and an ex wife!!) been there, done it, put it back to standard(ish)-plenty fall outs with it over the years-but to be honest-I won't sell it-what would I buy to replace it?

There's always going to be someone with a better, faster, more original one than yours but just enjoy it

Ps track cars might have the suspension etc done but can you be sure it's straight, not had a new roof etc

Weight of that GTi 6 engine kills the 205, Yes I know i do loads of conversions but it's not a engine I have every liked in a 205 as daft as it sounds I know why people do it, Get a alloy engine back in there and it will transform it

Good point from Miles. The alloy lump brings back the extra edge.

Theres not much to the interior. You could install most of the interior (dash sections) from a lower spec car and thats about it. Ditch the aircon if you dont really need it, theres loads of weight in it and fit a lithium battery. A lighter flywheel makes a nice difference on the GTi6 lump.

As said above you will struggle to find a good one if you ever sell the one you have and know! Spend the money making it really nice to drive. Treat it to new bushes, re build the rear beam if you have not done so and keep enjoying it.

Miles , the mi-16 (alloy) has the same effect on a 205 or it is better then the original engine?

Where in the car did you lose 50kgs if you've kept the interior?

Lightweight, 16v head, 160hp out of the box and begs to be thrashed to beyond 7krpm. What's not to like about it (apart from the oil issues)?

This is the thing. I think I bought the wrong car to start with. I thought I was going to miss the creature comforts from the M3 but really don't care for them much but someone else out there might. Only thing I need is the PAS due to a shoulder injury.
