Cylinder Head Bleed Screw

Recommended Posts

Minty Sauce

Could somebody tell me what size of screw / pitch of thread the cylinder head bleed screw is? The head has sheared off mine.

Thanks.

Or does anyone know the part number for the later style brass allen key headed bleed screw for cylinder head bleed point?

They are M6, the only number I've found for this on service box is 1306.29 but it doesn't make it obvious whether it's a plastic or brass one, but it also shows a washer (8249.18) so I think it'll be a metal one as the plastic screw doesn't have a washer under the head.

cross references to the RFS engine which definitely uses a brass screw.

1306 29
ENGINE WATER DRAIN SCREW
DIAM 6X100-18
1339 78
PURGE SCREW SEAL
10X6,2

£1.60 for both.

Ok, this is turning into a bit of a mare. The guy doing some work for me says the brass 1306 29 screw is to small but an M8 is too big. Unfortunately I can not see the car because I am away at the moment. I suggested trying to find an M7 just to try and plug the hole for now.

Are these bleed point holes threaded inserts or tapped straight into the metal?

Is it possible that a threaded insert has come out when he took the old screw out?

Any other suggestions to remedy the situation. Perhaps tap it out to M7 or M8 thread, or an M6 helicoil?

Thanks again.

we are talking 8v engine with the bleed tube on it aren't we?

that's definitely m6x1.0, if m6 is loose then someone has damaged it, i doubt there's enough material to go up to m8, m7 may go

Yeh it is an 8v. Does the bleed fitting t piece come out the head easily enough? I seem to remember it is pressed in? Is there a part number for it?

Thanks for the help!

It's not listed under 205, but it is for later 8v XU's on 306/405's etc - part number 1336K8 which isn't marked as NFP. £11.80 inc. VAT.

I've never tried removing one, but shouldn't be too difficult with the thermostat housing off the car. It is indeed a press fit in place, again, straight forward enough off the car.

I've had one fall off! thankfully not on a thermostat housing attached to an engine.

Its not on the head, its on the thermostat housing, its also used on the 16v XU engines, got a housing with one in it on the shelf in my workshop.
