Beware Of A 205 On Ebay

I've just spent 4 hrs on a round trip viewing a 205 gti thats on ebay in birmingham, The guy said over the phone that the shell was very good and interior was excellent, Reality is the shell is knackered and the interior (seats) are shot. Its got new omex t/b kit with omex 600 and some new spax suspension but rest of the car is knackered. So beware, If your gonna bid on it I suggest viewing it first!!

thats it. Someone else has obviously rejected it, Hes added that its not a mint car and needs work. Basically reading between the lines it looks like hes spent lots of money on it and then realised the shell is next to knackered and would need completely stripping back if it were to be repaired.

The Mi16 Engine was fitted in 2009 by Hi-Flow Heads and was fully rebuilt at the time

ah ok,

I did i quick google search, iv'e no experience with them, but reading some posts it looks like the experience people have had with the company isn't first had '' i once helped a mate fit one of their heads and it produced less power than other heads'' is one comments i read, but we all know figures are figures and theres many reason why figures are different.

 

I just wondered if you had first hand experience from them or were just slating them from what you've heard others say,

I've had first hand experience, I spent £3000 on a 2045cc gti6. Initial problems were

 

Smashed cam belt cover

Oil pump incorrectly assembled so kept blowing oil filter seal out

Incorrectly timed

Cam belt tensioner bolts rounded off

Incorrect bolts in sump

That's the stuff I can remember!

 

So after I fitted my completely rebuilt engine and sprayed oil all over my garage I had to remove the sump, cambelt etc (which involved drilling out bolts to get the cam tensioner undone) and correct the problem with the oil pump. I did get an apology off them so that was fine obviously and didn't bother me one bit.

 

With the engine timed up (they didn't know the actual figures I had to find them myself) it went off for mapping, it made a solid 160bhp at the flywheel, which was disappointing to say the least. Speaking to them on the phone they told me it was the map and not their problem, bye! It wasn't the map.

 

That's my actual experience, I've heard worse as well.

Personally I'm slating them based on other people's stories. It's not the sort of behavior I usually condone and accept that makes me a hypocrite. But I've been around here long enough to get a feel for which members I trust, and I've heard enough mud slung at HFH, and not a single good comment, that I make the exception in happily recommending people to steer clear of them. Ultimately it's up to the individual to do their own research and make their own decisions, but in the same way I wouldn't buy a new vacuum cleaner if all I found online was 10 awful reviews and not a single good one, I think most sensible people would make the same decision about HFH based on what info is floating about the net.

 

EDIT: Also bear in mind that you only found a bit of info in your search. There's a lot out there that you won;t easily find as people often don't refer to them by their actual name for legal reasons. As I said, I've been here long enough and I've seen most of those bad stories (I think) as and when they have cropped up.

Ah thats not good at all. you would think theyd ask to see the car atleast to inspect
