B'strd Tight Crankshaft Bolt

Recommended Posts

arbor

Tried timing belt change tonight 1.6 xu gti, but couldn't undo crankshaft 22mm bolt. Tried a Clarke corded mew1000 and new Milwaukee 3/4" drive impact gun.. ...nowt, nada, zip, feck all doin down there. Then went old school on it its ass, brute force and ignorance (in abundance)

Decent size screw drive in flywheel, in gear with a breaker bar..same thing

Any suggestions, bar gallon of petrol and flaming arrows?

Up to you this one, be warned

You could if you were dodgy, desperate, insane, shoddy, crying, generally fecked off (delete as appropriate ) put spanner on nut, wedge it against floor-making sure you have it facing correct way for the next stage which is turn car over

Obviously really f@@king dangerous and I take no responsibility if you damage car or you (I did it and it worked-just a turn of the key)

That works annoyingly well. I did it on a van on a campsite in Australia on a impromptu cylinder head swap/failed cambelt!

Frequently find the threadlock used has properly sealed the bolt in place!

I use the method of locking the flywheel and a bit of muscle to undo the bolt (failing that I use a bigger moment :) )

Heatgun on the end of the bolt will release it in combination with the zip gun.

Thanks for replies, will give it a lash when its dry again. Another failure for an air powered impact gun this morning. Really is tight, must have tube of threadlock on it. Taunting it didn't work either, but I was desparate..

Get some heat on it, that will soon burn the thread lock if so.
