Mot Questions

Recommended Posts

Since toying with parting with my 205 I've decided I'd miss it to much as would struggle to get close for the money. So now decided I'll get a mot on it so can use on the road without always being towed,

Since this was never my intention I clearly need to do a bit to get it through a mot but few questions on what's needed etc

My buckets are fixed for me is this likely to be a issue I.e do they need to be adjustable?

Reverse light- again is this legally needed not that it's hard to sort as need to do number plate lights and fog also.

Emissions wise being a 1989 does it have to pass anything?

Battery is inside but is a dry battery and is secure so guess that's ok?

End of the day the cars been built from the ground up so mechanically sound just don't know how it fairs on some of the technicallitys

seats are fine if your tester reads the notes properly.

reverse light not tested, fog on centre or rhs is mandatory as are number plate lamps.

emissions wise standard non cat test, 3.5% co 1200 ppm iirc, as its a mild tune engine it shouldn't cause issues if the map is good.

battery just needs to be secure.

Spot on thanks.

So reverse is not needed at all - even if it's fitted?

Should take me half a day at most then to fit

Number plate lights

Fog light

Windscreen washers

Horn

It's not part of the test so there is nothing they can fail it on. Saying that I think if it is stuck on all the time it will fail but even then it is not because it is a reversing light, it is because it is the wrong colour for the rear of the vehicle.

This is the checklist the tester uses: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/449392/mot-inspection-checklist-vt29.pdf

And this is the specific things they will check: http://www.motester.co.uk/mot-information-for-motorists/mot-test-checks-list
