Road Tyres

Needing fronts, going to go to wee place down the road, don't really want to spend more than£250

Yokohamas on it but shop doesn't get them but I'd quite like to give them the business anyway

Our a roads in the highlands are like your b roads-I'm a hundred miles from closest motorway, I use the car everyday for fun/grin/hooligan factor

Any recommendations of tyres that I'm likely to get from local tyre supplier (local shop for local people tubs)

Michelin pilots, I've have a second hand set on my 405 (195/50/15) the wet and dry grip is phenomenal, and they last forever, I honestly can't remember when I had them put on it was that long ago and I do 300 miles a week!

I have another set on my 309 and they will be going through a 3rd MOT in July without being changed

Michelin PS3s are a great tyre (have them on my wife's car), but I recently fitted Bridgestone RE003s to the 205 and they're fantastic! Bit softer though, so don't think they'll last as long as the Michelins (if that's a consideration).

I run Toyo R1r's on mine and find them to give excellent grip in wet and dry, I noticed a lot of the Caterfield boys using them so thought I would give them a go. They are reasonably soft so not sure how long they will last. Not used the PS3's myself but heard good things.

I have PS3s on my Focus RS and they're fantastic, for both road and occasional track use.

The 205 has AD08s which I rate too but that's mainly track use...

How do you find the AD08's on the road? Running R888's on the road is a no no as they're too loud and crashy with the harder side walls. The AD08's must also have fairly solid side walls, so just wondered how they are on the road as well.

I have AD08R's on mine and they're brill, and they were very good on track too.

I also bought them for two other cars I've had.

Hmm, been to local tyre place and he's talked me out of the pilots

Reckons Vredstein quintracks 4 (summat like that they're called) will be better up here as they work in cold weather unlike pilots

(Milton of leys, Inverness) theres only a quid of difference but he's got them on his own car

205s my Daily driver-won't take it out 4inches+ of snow as always get stuck (50 yards from house like a d*ck)

No offence to your tyre man but I'd rather go with opinions of people that actually use them on a 205, I've not heard a bad word said against them. It's not as if they are slicks and they need to be at a certain temperature before they perform, it's a road tyre so they will be fine.

Yeah toolie, better buying the PS3's and worry about the snow when it comes. Can always fire on a couple of snow tyres late July!

All the reviews of the PS3's are good and they are cheap as chips.

Na, the midges will have cleared them before the snow!

I remember years ago watching a bus load of Japanese tourists getting off a tour bus to take some pictures at the side of Loch Lomond, a few minutes later they all started slapping their heads/faces.

20 minutes later it was like a race back to the bus as they all shouted "Fak thees fow gimov sodgees!"

I like the feel of them on the road but the car is stripped with poly Windows so cannot comment on road noise really!

If you can get them in the right size Falken Ziex ze914's are definitely worth a look, great in the wet and cold, and very grippy in the dry. I'm not quite as far north as you, but they seem to handle the pothole-ridden Lanarkshire roads pretty well.

And for the snow, I got a cheap pair of 206 steels from a scrappy, and some mud and snow remoulds, they're pretty impressive (except when the snow thaws and you try to go over 40mph!)

If you are worried about snow, get a spare set of wheels with snow tyres. That will make your pilots last twice as long too. I switch wheels in winter for safety as my wife is a nurse and travels early mornings etc.

Thinking now to put pilots on front, all weather tyres on rear and swap them as I need them-it's my daily and quite frankly it already handles better than my natural talent and ability-yes I've spun it three times in the 21years I've owned it but that was me driving like an as@hole-I'm 44 now so I should know better (most of the time lol)
