Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 29, 2016 Ive just stripped down a spare gearbox I fitted when I did my engine swap that used to grind between 2nd and 3rd badly. Well suspicion was soon confirmed, the synchro is well hammered. Pictures speak a thousand words and all that ...... Is this worth fixing?, can it be fixed?, I see the dealer part is now nfp can they be sourced anywhere else? The box on the car is perfect but its not going to last forever, id like to have a turbo diesel box ideally but with good synchros.
mikeyd 13 Posted May 29, 2016 is it be1 or be3 -- if its a 3 then 2nd hand 306 ones are easy to get hold of
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 29, 2016 Crap! forgot that bit its a be1. Seeing as its no good i just flattened it out with a few taps with my hammer and its flat again so must be ally as it bent back very easily.
welshpug 1,661 Posted May 29, 2016 be1 and 3 synchros are mostly the same, how's the cup on the gear though? is the spring present?
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 29, 2016 (edited) Spring is fine, cup is fine too miraculously , as soon as I saw the bent ring I remembered your picture on your long rebuild post. For some reason this pos script site software wont let me add photos some times so changing to bucket links....... Edited May 29, 2016 by Slo
welshpug 1,661 Posted May 29, 2016 crikey, thats buggered, even if you've managed to straighten it the grooves are worn out.
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 29, 2016 Yeah lol it does grab hold now its more or less flat but I wouldn't risk using it again. To be fair it did grind a hell of a lot too, can you post a link to your thread as I cant seem to find it. Unsure if its worth keeping as a spare now as 3rd use to grind too and the synchro looks fine

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 2, 2016 Yes It was just the 1st gear as it looked quite heat damaged from the photo, centres are all the same so no problems there, any parts drop me a PM or mail and we can sort
