Xu10J2Te - Couple Of Questions

Recommended Posts

I'm about to start the conversion on my 205 and I've got most of what I need but theres a few things I can't seem to pin down or find solid answers for so I was hoping I'd get some pointers. I've tried searching for some time ;) I apologise in advance if anything I say is nonsense, please put me straight if it is!

Flywheel - My understanding is that the stock flywheel has a 60-2 trigger on it somewhere (i've yet to pull the engine from the donor). If there is and I wanted to retain it what flywheel would I need for a BE3 box? I'm unlikely to use the stock management so if i can keep an OE trigger it'll make it all a bit cleaner.

Clutch - Eventually my aim is for 250 at the wheels so I guess around 300ft/lb so I need a clutch that can deal with it, i suspect thats beyond the recommended valeo item so I'm open to options here. I've found an OMP paddle but its an unsprung plate which I dont fancy, used unsprung in my old S13 initially and didnt like it one bit (I suspect the driveshafts wont either)

Top engine mount - GTi6 or Mi16 I think?

I used a GTI6 flywheel with a Citroen Bx MI16 clutch, as there's a choice between pull and push type with the 405.

I did exactly the same as damian, the reason you cant use the original flywheel is the clutch is 230mm and that wont fit inside the 205 gearbox although the flywheel will.

The original turbo box has a steel support that fits underneath where the clutch cover goes, its not a direct bolt on fit to the 205 box but it can be made to fit, just one or two holes to drill if I recall. I recommend that you retain the bracket expecially if you are going to be forcing 250 gg's out of it ;)

Good info thanks, do I want push or pull on the clutch? Also would a stock clutch cope or do I need to go down the paddle route?

To the car and controls it will be no different to the original engine so just get whatever you have now. Just make sure its 215mm to match the flywheel!

I bought a reconditioned clutch kit for £25 delivered on ebay thinking if it was going to ruin it start cheap but its had 2 years hammer and never slipped once even in hot summer.

Upgrades are never a bad thing though when considering you are going to be pushing it

std clutch is OK for no more than 200 ft lb's of torque, I know the 2.0T one did ran 240ft and you could get that to slip, Helix work well and works on a Turbo 306 I know with over 350bhp, not sure on torque but it would be around the same
