205 1.6 Gti - Thing Above Exhaust Manifold

Can someone explain to me what is the thing above exhaust manifold ? There is one pipe from air filter goes in that thing, a from there it conect to exhaust manifold ? it is metal thing And one more question, should I put 90 degress thermostat, because now it is 82 ? thanks

Thanks.... If I want to make induction shorter , like I saw on few posts , I never saw explanation how to conect that ?

buy a K&N induction kit, it comes with a shorter intakepipe and a bracket to relocate the AFM.
