Radiator Surrounds/ducting

Recommended Posts

I understand some of you run purpose made surrounds to force air through the rads when the standard cowling etc has been disposed off.

After doing a hard track day yesterday my water Temps were a little higher than hoped and looking at the rad (bbm) the top half of it is behind the black bumper so shielded and then I have my oil cooler on the lh side directly in front of it also so actually only 1/4 of my rad is in clear airflow so sure there's some improvements that can be made.

Any ideas or pics of what you have done?

Could your fan pull rather than push, thus giving more free frontal surface area.

Oil cooler over to the right and air ducted via driving light hole moving it away from rad.

I've actually got another fan behind the rad on the other side so got one pull and one push

Might the rad drop down a little?

You definitely need some ducting to block all the space around and above the rad.

Air takes the path of least resistance so rather than going through your rad it is going above and beside it.

Dr Sarty came to see me once with a setup exactly like yours, it was kind of OK when driving but got hot in slow traffic and when stationary. I happened to have the plastic trim panel from the inside of a 205 tailgate in my garage so RIch trimmed it a bit then fitted it above his rad which solved all of his issues.

Oh I forgot,

I've got aluminium ducting over my rad more to stop the hot air going in the bodies but it probably has many affects!

Check my buildt Thread.

Yep, force everything through the radiator. I have a piece of aluminium angle, which doubles as a support for the grille, in true Colin Chapman style. The sheet of thin aluminium has a 90 return, which bolts to the radiator.

I like how you've done this, nice finishing - mine is similar but more of a lash up!

We've even even had similar ideas on how to hold the grill in!

Where do your mounting points for the lower grill attach to?
