Base Model Diesel Servo

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Need some advice if possible, can I use any servo for the 1.8 N/A diesel model or is it model specific? I've got seriously weakened brakes at low speeds and it's been pin pointed at this. Will the GTi or other model one fit?

Cheers

No reason any RHD 205/309 servo won't work that I can see.

Are you sure its the servo and not a weak vacuum pump though?

have you got a belt driven or direct drive vac pump?

I'm not sure, it's an August 1996 car. I can't think that theres another belt from memory.

It could very well be the pump though... Can I bypass the servo ?

Physically any servo will fit, gti items are just wider but the same depth.

As WP suggests, check if you have the belt driven vac pump on the gearbox side. Could even be a split pipe.

Ideal with the servo. I'll have a look at the belt driven pump side of things as the car isn't with me currently. Bloody pain, I just spent £280 to get it through the MOT the other day!

Okay so it turns out the pump is to blame. Where the cheapest place to get a second hand twin pulley unit guys?

Thanks

you can rebuild those, its usually the diaphragm that goes, not sure if still available but I know I have one somewhere!!!

Do they often go? The actual part seems almost impossible to find, I can find the pump with one nozzle and one that looks totally different but I'm having difficulty finding one for this particular vehicle.

Being a late 205, will it share it with the Partner / 306 D / AX?

Okay so next question is, can I bypass the servo and have the master cylinder do the brake work instead?

Effectively with a U/S vacuum pump the servo is doing very little anyway and you're operating the master cylinder with no assistance.
