barneys66 122 1 Cars Posted April 29, 2016 Had a local quote to powder coat my bare subframe for £90. Does this sound a bit rich, or am I just being unrealistic / tight..?

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted April 29, 2016 it varies allot, Having 1 item will not help at all, I know my place charge a set up cost so the more done the cheaper it is
jord294 92 Posted April 30, 2016 Plus 1 with Miles I tend to get loads of parts together before taking for powdercoat. If I'm after different colours I take one batch at a time
mrfirepro 127 1 Cars Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) on a side issue, how do you find powder coating lasts on underbody parts, I stayed away from it because I believed it would chip too easily, was I right? Reason I ask is that I'm just about to start the next 205 and would like to powder coat due to the superior finish Edited May 1, 2016 by mrfirepro
Andy_C 50 Posted May 1, 2016 Paul, I'm sure Miles mentioned this to me a while back. FWIW, I chipped a newly powder coated wheel recently and had to have the whole thing redone as it chipped through to the alloy and it's a custom colour too - paint would have chipped maybe but could have been easily touched in. welshpug 1,657 Posted May 1, 2016 powdercoat is typically a very hardwearing coating, however thorough and proper prep of the piece is important, especially on aluminium parts where the corrosion and soaked in oils can be very difficult to remove.

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted May 1, 2016 I tend to use a company that does Blasts and paints Dumpers & Digger's now for allot of suspension parts as the paint they use is very much like the original and hard as, the main issue with Powder coating is that you cannot do bolt/nuts up tight as they generally come loose of the coating cracks due to it being so thick which is covering up a bad surface is fine and thats it really
