Sill Replacement

Recommended Posts

ak35

I'm just about to replace the offside sill on my '89 gti and wondered if someone could give me a good close up photo of where the sill meets the B post at the lower rear corner of the door opening as mine has been bodged beyond recognition and I need to know what it looks like. (The other side is not much better.

hi there,

Have you considered just repairing it- tbh I've seen worse - might be easier to repair it?

Is it rotten behind the rear passenger trim? take it out and have a look .

Thanks, the sill is being replaced because I can put my arm through it. The rear panel will be repaired, I just want to know how they join together, is the join blended smooth or is there an overlap or visible joint inside the door shut?post-26139-0-61744600-1460567073_thumb.jpg

With the sill that bad I'd be temped to look behind the fuel tank as well and the middle inner sill section below the rear qtr panel, But the sills are dead easy to replace, just get cutting

Do you mean like this Miles?

Unfortunately I'm not the first person in there.

All sorted now, needs sealer, filler and paint. (And then do the other side),
