Thanks rich!

Ive borrowed toms picture from the post.

Looking through the hole (1) I can see water behind the corner boxed section (2) which then flows down into the footwell (3)

I am having trouble relating that to where it is located with regard to the car if I took the wing off

I've borrowed Mowflows pic to!

I'm presuming that the corner I can see in the first pic (via the hole) -- stick with me here!

Is roughly in the region I've arrowed in the picture below?

I'm aware that my car doesn't have the reinforcing bar

Im still struggling with this - really trying to visualise where/how to sort this problem out

I think the corner that is leaking is at the 'front' of the scuttle panel- however on inspection I cant see any tell tale signs of corrosion

im basing its at the front on my drawing on this photo!

Having sorted my back up car I've decided to remove the wings and try and track down this leak. - I need soundproofing and a carpet back in as soon as possible!

Anyway, having never removed a wing on a 205 are there any major pitfalls I need to be aware of?

As far as I can see there are 4 bolts t the top and a load seam sealant to remove- any advice would be great.

heat gun or blow lamp and a sharp knife or scraper, take your time.

Don't forget the bolt or two in the A pillar, the ones behind the end of the bumper too.

ah ok I can get a decent heat gun from work- I take it the heat just softens the sealant? Any advice on what sort of temperature it needs to be at?

So I have a question! The damage is running into the area where the drain holes are on both sides. Having inspected the area it seems even if I remove the wings this area is a boxed section- I wont have access as far as I can tell.

Can anybody confirm or deny this please?

having no money to carry out a permanent repair (and being as the sun is out) I set about a temporary solution using the following materials!

now I know the word Bodge springs to mind but stick with it!

Here's both areas covered with a very sticky steel tape

Then sealed at the edges to prevent water lifting the tape

After further investigation it seems there is no way to get into the area behind the bonnet hinge bolts.

So I've removed all the loose paint, rust treated it as best I can then blasted the interior of the box area with hammerite.

I figure that will buy me a year or so until I can get the funds to repair it properly++ its the summer- whats the point in having a GTI if I don't have it for the summer months!
