This Guy Can't Be For Real?

Charging more for a XY engine than a TU, £50 for a base model subframe! Silly silly person.

He recently bought some parts from me on eBay, I'm just waiting to see them relisted at a crazy price.

It can be a profitable business if you're prepared to put the time in, I can never find the enthusiasm.

This is the inevitable result of £20 K cars in the ads and the £25 K auction result on the recent 205 GTI , hands up all those who thought it was a great idea

Seriously though I am sure this guy was listing a used cambelt at one stage !

I've bought stuff off him in the past, that turned out to be broken. However he did replace the items with minimal hassle, also at that time the prices were reasonable.

If he can sell parts at those prices...even back many years I bought a complete 8v engine with ancillaries for less than what someone wanted for a head on ebay...

It's a supply and demand thing. How many of Ph 1 lower dashes without any cracks can you buy? Next to none I would say...

Soon enough all the parts will be bought up and stored by speculators such as this and people like me will be priced out of the market.

Sadly its worth what ever someone will pay for it and if that's £299 then fair enough...

Its just the nature of the game regarding these older cars

It's not what you know . It's who you know ;0) . This is where the local meets come in very handy

I find it depressing seeing more and more 205 bits go for crazy money. Makes me think I'll soon not be able to afford to keep mine running / looking good.

I don't have the space to stockpile parts. Everyone who sees my car, the first thing they ask is how much do you think you'll get for it.

Is everything about money these days? Seems like it to me.

its a sad state of affairs really. I bought a complete 1.6 engine for £30 6 months ago - infact the one I'm rebuilding so not everybody is money grabbing.

If nobody buys at these inflated prices then it will hopefully stop such madness. I (generally) pass on overpriced stuff and just keep looking and waiting.

Ditto with the how much is it worth question - as soon as something gets old and still looks ok its -Whats it worth!

Im not sure what mines worth tbh - ive insured it for £3500 but I think that may be under value - not sure I could replace it for that kind of money now.
