Gti6 Cambelt In Situ

Recommended Posts

Clapton_Is_God

Hello All,

After finally getting to the bottom of my non starting woes (hallelujah) it seems I have a rather unpleasant whine coming from what I'm fairly certain is the cambelt being over tensioned.

Can this be done with the engine in situ and is it just a case of backing it off slightly and retensioning or do I need to go through the full procedure?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

It can be done in-situ, but access is pretty tight if you've big hands. Remember that since there's only a single tensioner, you'll need to also slacken off the cam verniers and do that part of the procedure as well.

Think you could do it, maybe need to lift or drop engine slightly though, and the associated tasks involved with that.

But one thing To make a point of checking is signs of leaking from your water pump, caused by the belt having been tensioned far too much.

Good luck, I feckin hate timing belts!

Thankfully I have small hands and I certainly have a desire not to remove the engine again.

Thank you for the advice.
