Wipers And Washer Jet Wiring

Can anyone explain to me how the wipers and washer jets are wired in. What I mean by this is when I activate the washers how does it also set off the wipers and how is the time the wipers stay on for controlled ?

washers trigger the relay, the relay has a timer for a set number of sweeps, the wiper track in the motor holds the relay closed till the motor has done a full circle so it stops in the right place.

its a standard blue wiper relay, very common across many years of peugeot and citroens.
