Ecp Eicher / First Line Accelerator Cable - Don't Bother!

Recommended Posts

Quick post to warn others of some more s*ite after-market parts out there that are simply not fit for purpose!

Bought a First Line accelerator cable (ebay) ages ago as a spare for the race car - came to fit it last weekend and the cable outer was a joke - solid plastic, not flexible enough and produced so much friction on the cable inner that the throttle return spring wasn't strong enough to pull the cable back through and close the throttle!

So jumped on-line to ECP, they had an Eicher one listed: http://www.eurocarparts.com/search/647545091

It arrived today and it's exactly the bloody same (albeit with the cable missing out of the pack)!

How can companies get away with selling this utter s*ite - the plastic cable outer simply does not work!

Right rant over, hopefully this post will prevent someone else waste their time on one of these cables.

I live in London - dealer visit costs me a 3hr round trip!

Have ordered a separate nylon lined outer from merlin motorsport for about £8, should do the trick with the inner cable from the 1st kit I bought.

My local dealer is the same on a round trip roughly, rural location

I get them to mail stuff to me

Should sort the issue

I thought Firstline would of been a bit better

I used a universal First Line one without problems. 5 years on it's still working fine. What fitment was it listed as? May be different or they've perhaps changed the spec.

It was an FKA1000.

As pictured here:

comes with loads of fittings and the steel cable looks fine, but the outer is just soild plastic with a hole through the middle.

I know the kit you've got. They are OK for larger sweeping bends as you can see there it's curled up. Not so good for tight angles like a OE cable would do.

Some of the fittings were a bit crap so I used some of the OE ones. Particularly the bit through the bulk head I think. Was fine for how I routed it, although I agree it's fairly stiff plastic.

I had the same kit for mine, was a piece of s*it! Spent a whole day tinkering and using other bits I had lying around to make it work.
