Non/poor Runner

Hi fitted a complete 1.9gti engine loom and ecu to my car. The engine starts and misfires then cuts out after 15 20 seconds suspect to over fueling. Disconnect inj and it starts till burns off excess fuel sump is full of petrol also now. The engine ran fine in the other car. Only thing I have changed is the engine was running carbs so put back to standard injection. And fitted a 1.6gti airflow meter.

Check list so far is

Compression is good

Gerting good spark

Inj firing on noid light

Fuel to rail

All injectors checked and all put out same amount of fuel

Cyl1 at tdc valves shut rotor arm is at no 1

firing order all correct.

Cant get a timming light on as doesnt run long enough.

Also has a vernier pully so doesnt have a timing mark.

Any suggestions as really starting to do my head in.

Thanks.

Fuel pressure regulator? 1.6 afm running 1.9 injectors won't be right-I did it temporary and had to mess about with mixture (it was never as poky though!!)

Almost certainly the blue plugged temperature sender on the thermostat block under dizzy (actual position varies between phases) it's very close to the sad which has a black plug. Black plugged to black sender and blue plug to blue sender but can be fitted both ways. (Only multiplies on loom that can be physically fitted wrongly?)

It's also common for the crimped ends to be pushed out of the multiplying when fitting these and the arm plug.

Had a look and the plugs are on the right way what should the coolant temp sensor read on a multi meter when cold?

From memory it's around 2500 ohms at 20 degrees and 300 ohms at operating temperature (around 80-85 degrees).

Cheers got a sensor for 4.22 so just fitted one. Still no change. Had a look and now I am thinking the airflow meter is from my old Mi16. Part no 0280202202 and its a d6b engine fitted now. Could this make the car over fuel?

The part no ending 202 rings a bell as an Mi16 (Motronic) air flow meter to me. I'm amazed it runs at all to be honest! Yes you need the correct AFM to match the ECU and injectors.

Yep, that's the wrong AFM! 0280202202 is for Motronic (CAT) 1.9 GTi's and 1.9 Mi16's.

You need a 0280202109 for a Jetronic (non-CAT) 1.9 GTi.
