8V Turbo Not Starting

Recommended Posts

CHRISWB

So I have had the engine in for some time now and it's running sort of, I now want to finish it an get it out to play not sure if I'm going to make it in to my new track car. ( broke my 306 gti6 )

So I am struggling with getting it running, I turn key it turns over and over and won't fire I have fuel and spark timing is fine too. If it gets warm it will run and go well. I don't have a lambda sensor in not sure if it will make a massive difference to it starting?

I hope someone can help before I throw the towel in.

Lambda shouldn't make any odds to cold starting, as typically lambda sensors aren't used until the engine gets up to temperature.

If you've fuel and spark, does it make any attempt to fire or does it just whirr over with not so much as a cough?

Seems odd that it'll start and run fine when it's warm. Have you tried a replacement ECU temperature sensor, as that seems the obvious thing that would vary most between a hot and cold engine from a sensor point of view.... although most ones that I've seen have typically failed cold not hot.

It will start up then just cut straight out, if I hold revs on it just caughs and splutters then when you let off it just dies again.

Where is the ECU temp sensor I will change it.

I have got a spare engine so I have changed the following

Injectors,

Plugs,

Coil pack,

Throttle body

Inlet manifold,

Disable the fuel pump temporarily and loosen off the air pipe on the throttle body and have someone turn the car over while you spray short blasts of wd40 or pound shop equivalent dp65 straight into the inlet with the red straw,a quick blast every second or two should be enough, if it runs like that it cuts the problem in half as it can only be the fuel circuit. Engines run on gas a lot better as there's no fuel to wet the plugs from flooding.

If its no different it can only be the ignition side.

Engine temp sensor is one of the three sensors behind the thermostat block, theres one for the guage one for the light and one for the ecu.

Thanks I will give it ago see how I get on, I will keep you informed.

What are you thinking it could be on the ignition side if it makes no difference with fuel pump disabled?

Air leak, possibly faulty coilpack not so much dead but arcing

Sounds to me like it may be overfueling does it stink of fuel?

I changed the coil pack to another one I had on a spare engine, I can't hear any air leaks at all.

What could the over fueling be caused by or would the above cause it?

ecu temp sensor faulty pump or regulator
