Fuel Pump To Fixed Lines Hose

Recommended Posts

Bobbafett

Came back to the 205 this morning at the shop and noticed a pool of fuel under the car. Where the flexible lines from the pump meet the metal lines it is leaking. It looks like the hose is split at the end so I need to replace it all.

1) What is the ID of the hose? 7mm? Is it 7mm both ends with just a pushover fit?

2) I don't want to take any chances with fuel so where can I buy the best quality 7mm high pressure hose? I've looked around and it seems 7mm is hard to find in good quality.

3) Are standard fuel clips ok (jubilee type) or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance!

Re use the original clips, you will need some "clic" clip pliers but they are only a tenner or so. Much neater than other solutions. Hose is 7mm yes, good luck finding something decent though as nearly all modern rubber stuff these days is garbage.

No not really. You could try 1/4" which is 6.35mm and see if it will stretch over if you get it pliable by putting the ends in a mug of boiling water before you try to fit it. Try somewhere like FSE for some hose.

I do actually have some 7mm hose in my garage but the consensus seems to be that all standard nitrile hose, including 'R9' etc these days is useless and will cause a great fireball within 12 months.

It looks like I need some PTFE/Teflon coated stuff but I can only find it anywhere in 6mm or 8mm. I'm guessing the 6mm just isn't going to happen and the 8mm will be way too big. Quandry!

From memory one hose is listed at 7mm one is 9mm i.d, though I'm sure I have used 8mm in the past  I'd measure the barbs on the pump before going any further.

I've just re-done mine with 8mm bio-fuel hose and proper fuel injection hose clamps. All worked perfectly. Only time will tell if it lasts however! Likewise here, the FI hose sold in the past 12-18'months is rubbish.

I think I'll get some of that nice PTFE lined braided expensive stuff in 8mm and give it a try. If the fit doesn't seem right then I'll go back to the drawing board!

You shouldn't use ptfe lined hose with push on/jubilee fittings

I measured my hard lines which were originally diesel with vernier calipers and the OD was 8&10mm respectively.

It seems the hose split at the end due to it being fixed on with a jubilee clip. I cut an inch off, put it back over and fixed it with a proper fuel hose clip. Done the trick!

Similar problem I have on my car. Someone's used a jubilee clip instead of the correct clip
