Under Drivers Wing... Advice Needed Please

Recommended Posts

Antpidge92

Hi,

So I have started to restore my 205 1.6 gti and repairing the rust on the inner wing parts " the normal place"..

I have done the passengers side and went well but now I have moved on the driver side and I removed the wing and found a "tube" looks like it for strengthening but its it suppose to be there ?? Or has this car been in a crash ??

Thanks in advance

Mr Pidge

Thank you, is there a reason it's on the divers and not the passenger ??

Ive always wondered that too why only on one side?

I might have something to do with keeping the steering column away from your face in a crash seeing as its on the drivers side, pure guess though that

Was it just the GTIs that had (have?) them, or the late base models as well?  Are they available for sale?

I always thought it was strange to fit it on just the right side , I wonder if left hand drive cars were similar or had it on the left only as the car would have been designed for the French Market to begin with.

Left hand drive cars have the same stiffener on the right hand side. I have had both wings off on mine.
