Returning Mi16 To Injection

Recommended Posts

marcy

hi i have an mi16 205 which has r1 carbs and megajolt and was wanting to go back to injection as never liked it from day one,8 years of pain now! and have had mi16 on motronic in the past know how much better it is turn key for example i was wondering if anyone could help?

its an xu9j4 engine which i rebuilt a couple of years back so dont want to change to hole gti6 setup/ew10j4rs

what is the most cost efective way of doing this?

the most readily available way?

is there a more modern way rather than using the hard to get motronic parts?

can the gti6 loom and ecu be used for example?

was planning to use gti6 inlet and throttlebody

thanks any help would be apreciated

to run an MI16 you don't need a particularly complex wiring loom if yo use an ECU Like a DTA S40, an aftermarket custom made one will be far more minimal and easier to use than any o.e pug loom.

using the gti6 inlet will work nicely, it has a full Throttle sensor over the switch that the mi used, use a wasted spark coil from an 8v tu or later 8v xu, gm plug leads.

standard crank sensor and temp sensors.

that route will cost a little more than hunting down all the old MI16 stuff, which will most likely be quite worn, but will give much more flexibility for any future mods, cams, bodies etc.

also depends very largely on how much you are willing to take on yourself.

ok thanks for that. I am competent with wiring although the problems with going aftermarket is the cost in mapping i was worried how hard it would be to find a decent maf for example what else would i need to run on an aftermarket ecu would i be able to run it without icv and maf? and would it be as user frendly as an oe pug setup once mapped?

yes, you can have it mapped using tps for load, map for compensations, in some ways its more user friendly than the old o.e ecu's as you can plug a laptop in and view live readings.

I'm all in favour of mappable ecu's but the original Motronic does work very well and hard to beat when you take into account cost.

Definitely go for the GTi6 inlet and preferably a 3 row ECU solution (161, 354, 355 etc.) . I have (had) special chips for either 2 row or 3 row, but the 3 row is definitely superior. Happy to burn you one for cost. ie $20 + postage

I've got a peterT 3 row chip I don't need if you want it. PM me if you do.
