Ams 23 1 Cars Posted March 13, 2016 Timely report today considering poor Gwyns recent experience - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35716456 Best to be doubly sure of your insurance cover. And perhaps a large dog!
toolie72 67 1 Cars Posted March 13, 2016 They've gone from old cars to desirable-I had a man yesterday wanting to swap mine for a four year old Peugeot. People go past my house-twice to look at 205-it's always locked!! Vans got thousands of pounds worth in it and it never gets a look and it's normally unlocked Mind you living where I do you'd get seen (and caught hopefully) Ps two big shinty sticks in van if I catch you trying to get into car!!! Anthony 1,003 Posted March 14, 2016 All of you who have been celebrating values going through the roof and a sharp reduction in the numbers of cars being broken for spares... careful what you wish for, as this sort of thing will be an unfortunate side-effect. Indeed, I wonder if it's a sign that it's already pretty bad that a couple of the insurers/brokers I spoke to earlier this year could not provide me a quote unless I were to keep the car garaged overnight despite living in a low-risk postcode, and that's not something that I've personally ever come across in the past - mandating an alarm/immobiliser be fitted, certainly, but never that the car must be garaged. Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted March 14, 2016 Lovely looking dog, I have a GSD myself, but aside from the fact mine is a massive softy, more likely to fetch a ball to play than bite an intruder, if someone broke into my house I would give them the keys to any of my cars before I let them hurt my dog.
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 14, 2016 not like you need keys for a 205 anyway!
nveeate 78 Posted March 14, 2016 Found a new place to keep my keys. Must be hard to use the pedals properly with him dangling from the ignition.

pp205 17 Posted March 15, 2016 I have been reading this topic with interest, as I have realised recently just how much attention my 205 does get. It's nowhere near mint but does scrub up well and luckily all the attention it does get is positive. However I moved last year and unfortunately don't have the use of a garage anymore and am restricted to on street parking. Luckily it's a nice area but I think I'm going to get an alarm fitted for piece of mind. I had a look at the thatcham website and it would appear the Cobra 4138 or the Toad Ai606 are the best rated aftermarket alarms. I'm sure one of my old 205s had a toad alarm fitted which did the job but has anyone got one of these fitted currently or any advice on which to go for? pp205 17 Posted March 16, 2016 Thanks Anthony, I'm sure my old car had a toad one - with a dark green key fob. I'll have a look into them. Better to be safe rather than sorry!
jackherer 543 Posted March 16, 2016 I'm considering one of the GPS/GSM tracking devices that are available cheaply these days, has anyone used them?
Stu 18 Posted March 16, 2016 Yeah i've got one, it drains the battery in less than a week
jackherer 543 Posted March 16, 2016 Have you tried tracking it? How well does that work?
Stu 18 Posted March 16, 2016 That part is really good, it'll text you the long/lat of the cars position and with a tweak on a smartphone take you straight to the map application.. You can also set up a 'perimeter' in the software whereby you establish a pen of long/lat and if the car moves outside of that an alert gets pinged to your phone with the details of its position. You can also wire/set it to remotely kill the ignition/fuel pump etc. Shame it just kills the battery
nomis 12 Posted March 16, 2016 The old suggestion used to be to buy a cheap pay as you go phone and leave it on hidden in the car, as they can be GPS tracked. Not actually ever heard of anyone getting a car back from this though.
barneys66 122 1 Cars Posted March 16, 2016 Are they getting lifted or driven off..? A hidden ignition kill switch might be a cheap start.

GPS and GSM are pretty power hungry so it doesn't surprise me that it kills the battery fast. One of my daughters friends Audi was found in a container along with another expensive car on Harwich dockside due to a tracking device through an old phone in the glovebox. That sounds ideal, I might hide one somewhere and wire up a usb charger to keep it running.
omega 82 Posted March 16, 2016 with the tracker option i think you need a sim card with a lot of data so that can cost a lot of money.
