Rear Axle Mount Arms

Hi,

 

I need to replace the rear axle mount arms, do I need to take the beam off the car to replace?

 

Is there an easy way to replace?

 

ShoUldale I replace the square mount rubber that fits on top of the arms?

I`d drop the axle down to do it and replace the rear mounts.

 

Febi brand ones are fine on a standard road car,and cheap on fleabay.

Depends on your skills, tooling and facilities, straight forward nut and bolt stuff. You need 13mm, 16mm and 18mm tools.

Rusty stuff can be a problem.

 

Wire brush, then lather all rusty fixings in plusgas for a week before starting, this will help if its rusty, also have an oil can handy to oil the threads as you undo nuts along the rusty parts of the threads.

 

Take the silencer off for a bit more room, two 13mm nuts at the clamp, also spare wheel and cage, you can support the car with a stack of wheels under the boot floor if you have nothing else

 

Trolley jack to take the weight of the axle, you could do it without removing completely just lowering a bit for better access, the brake flexis and handbrake cables could remain undisturbed, break the "nip" on everything before the mounts are undone.Be careful not to "hang" it from the flexis

 

Shocker fixings, four 16mm nuts at front of the boot under the matting for the front mounts, two 16mm nuts in recesses under nylon caps in boot floor for the rear mounts , then the two nuts and bolts either side holding the pressed steel part to the cast lugs on the tube.

 

Its not complicated.

Needs beam stripping to swap mount arms. The bolts don't clear the trailing arms.

C`est la vie Peugeot, when the shockers off you can force the arm down enough to get the bottom bolt out

I'd take the opportunity to refresh the beam tbh, ive never seen these parts with any more than surface rust, dk if there's more I personally wouldnt be hopeful for good condition internals!!
