8V Heads - Interchangeable?

Recommended Posts

Mac Crash

We have an early (87 phase one 1.9) cylinder head... before taking it to the machine shop, will this be okay to fit onto a later 1990 1.6 engine? any differences we should know about? The older head as said originated from an early 1.9, is gas flowed and skimmed for 10.5:1 CR with 270 cam... I'm thinking the heads must all be the same but the piston crown volumes differ between the engine sizes, looking for confirmation and/or advice on this.

Later 1.6 GTi (115hp) and 1.9 GTi heads are the same. As you say, it's the bottom end that differs together with the camshaft.

There's two sizes of inlet valves. the early xu5j had smaller ones fitted.

I think all 1.9's (xu9j) were the larger size.

Cams are different as well
