Coolant Pipe Leak.

Recommended Posts

Ams

Hello, I have a water leak from a hose located in an awkward location behind the exhaust manifold (visible above the O/S driveshaft). I'm unsure of the part number and also whether any aftermarket options are available. When I spoke to the parts man at Peugeot he stated this particular pipe is no longer available. Is there another model in the PSA range that shares this pipe?

(The arrow below shows where the pipe is located but I couldn't find it on servicebox to verify Peugeots statement)

Hoping someone can advise, I'm concerned the leak will get worse so the car is stuck until then. :(

Cheers!

Looks like your part man is telling the truth - that pipe is part number 1341A3 and it is indeed marked NFP.

(it's under the "Durite Hose Cooling" page btw)

Assuming that there's no old stock sat on a shelf somewhere, it's different diameter at each end from memory so you'll need to see if you can find a reducer in the correct sizes and length to replace it, or source a used item.

What about trying the Citroen SB?

Had come the same problem a couple of years back, I bought a silicone hose reducer from either JJC, Merlin or demon tweeks. Unfortunately it was a while back so can't remember the size, just measure it and you should find one easy enough.

Not an easy job with the engine in place, bit awkward.

Isn't the metal pipe version an early type that was superseded by a single flexible pipe? (Which may still be available)

I have a feeling I came across one of these in the garage today. However as a 25 +year old used part it's likely knackered

It's a GTi-6 engine Steve - as far as I know they all run that setup with the metal pipe due to the proximity of the exhaust manifold, as do the later Xsara VTS engines.

Ahhh...... oops. Didn't expect gti-6 parts to be now already. Especially something like a coolant pipe.

Yeah this pipe being listed as NFP surprised me as well! Was sure the parts guy must have been mistaken but alas Anthony confirmed my fear (cheers for checking). Getting the diameter is going to be tough because I don't have the time or inclination to remove it myself due to its awkward location. I'm sending it to a garage to get some other stuff done as well, but I can't have it taken off to check dimensions since that'll mean the car will be stuck on a ramp for days till a replacement comes - not acceptable for the garage. I'll have to get a replacement sorted before I go in. It's possible that the issue is just a clamp that has corroded and lost tension leading to the leak, but again I don't want to assume this in case the actual pipe has perished.

Right for anyone else that develops a fault in this particular hose ( Durite 1341A3 ) the dimensions are as follows:

Inner dia of larger end - 24.7mm
Inner dia of smaller end - 22.3mm
Length - 88.6mm

AFter hunting around online I found only Merlinmotorsport to have a Samco reducer in the required size of 25mm-22mm that can be cut down to the required length :

I happened upon this picture of a DW8 engine, far more common than a gti6, and used for a few years longer, may be suitable, the i.d's listed match.
