Exhaust Position Advice Needed.

Recommended Posts

On my GTI6 205,what is the best way to finely tune the exhaust position between bulkhead and rack?I could do with shortening the rear mount fork by about 7 or 8 mm.Is this an acceptable way to do this and if so,should i make an adjustable slot where the bolt goes or cut and shorten and reweld fork. Thanks Rob

adjust the length of the downpipe, not the mountings.

Its not really the length of the downpipe thats the problem, the pipe isnt central between bulkhead and rack, its too close to rack. The only other way to reposition it would be to recut and reweld and i dont fancy doing that as it would mean taking the engine out.

well, one method is a bodge, the other is doing it properly.

Would altering the angle of the flange on the downpipe help?

I had my engine in/out 5 or 6 times to get this right, but hadn't any pipes etc connected so it was quite swift.

I had to cut mine again and get it rewelded.

I think it is possible to remove the manifold in situ, but i imagine it would be sore on the back.

its a vts front pipe with short flexy and grooved clip that goes round outside. Not any adjustment and the flexy bit is about 4mm from rack ram and looks like it touches it under hard acceleration.

He's right. A wedge is the only way to fix it properly.

Get a proper 6 manifold on it with the flange joint, those Xsara ones are horrid. TO re-angle your self is time consuming and the engine stays in just the subframe needs to be dropped, I have the manifolds and D/P's made to order
